Here’s something to add to your sneaker knowledge. The first explorers of the “New World” report that the Amazonians would dip their feet in a sap like extract (latex) from the Hevea Brasiliensis (The Para rubber tree) over fire creating the first “tennis shoes”. Latex is the primary source of natural rubber and this process (which is reported to have begun 3600 years ago among the Olmec people of Mesoamerica) was the inspiration for Iguaneye’s minimalist shoes. A full house showed up for the VIP premiere of the Already Famous documentary “We Out Here” and MTV’s Sway moderated a Panel discussion that included: Ron Brodie (“We Out Here” director), Alex Corporan (NYC Skateboarding legend/Already Famous Ambassador), Eric Dreyer (VP of Brand Management, Airwalk, Collective Licensing International), Jessica Forsyth (Executive Director of the Harold Hunter Foundation), Mitchell Ware (Creative Director and Creator of Already Famous) and Wade Yates (NYC Skater/Co-founder of Trophy Grip). This in your face raw film followed the lives of several skaters from some of the grittiest parts of New York. The shots, the black and white, the music, the stories, it all came together for something that felt very special and most importantly authentic. Check out some fliks from the night including one of my favorites security sporting some FRESH OG Cazal’s.

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Sneaker x Kevin Lyons For Colette

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

If theres one shoe at DeFY. that we know well its the Converse All Star (see our Ultimate Converse All Star Chuck Taylor buyers guide video). It’s seen thousands of releases and is the unofficial artists shoe of the sneaker community. With that said Converse teamed up with artist, designer and typographer Kevin Lyons for a limited run shoe for colette. Kevin co-founded the NYC based design firm, stereo-type which for two years was responsible for much of the graphic look of the New York City underground Hip-Hop and Acid Jazz scene. In 2001, he was named as one of “The Top Forty Designers Under Thirty” by ID Magazine and went on to hold positions at Stussy (as design director) and then Urban Outfitters (as creative director). After noticing that Sarah Colette rocked Chucks every day (and the fact she’s always been a huge supporter of his art) he felt the collaboration was only natural. Featuring his signature Monsters drawings and colette’s signature blue across the sneakers white canvas uppers, this shoe will be available in limited supply (only 125 pairs) and in unisex sizing 3-13 at an MSRP of $90 beginning December 10, 2012 at colette in Paris.

A lot of people fail to remember, but during the early to mid 90′s Nike was seeing fierce competition from the likes of Adidas, Vans, Converse and FILA who were seen as sightly more “street”. Check out the D.O.C. rockin’ a white and black Adidas Jacket above!
